Catholic Digest is an American Roman Catholic monthly magazine that strives to show readers how faith enriches all aspects of life.

Background of Catholic Digest

Catholic Digest was first published in November 1936 and today has a circulation of over 300,000 readers. It has remained a source of hope and inspiration, publishing human interest stories that celebrate faith, catholic heritage and traditions. It was purchased by the French Roman Catholic media group Bayard Presse in December 2001. Bayard publishes more than 100 periodicals in Europe, Africa, Asia, and America.

Writers Guidelines for Catholic Digest

Catholic Digest considers:

  • Nonfiction, full length articles averaging from 1000-2000 words about religion, family, health, human relationships, nostalgia, and good works as well other topics that fit the standards of the magazine.
  • Short, filler articles of less than 1000 words.
  • Reprinted articles from other periodicals or newspaper and also original work.
  • The Question and Answer (Q&A) section is handled by the Catholic Digest staff and rarely uses original material from outside sources.
  • Articles usually contain a faith element or a connection to the Catholic Church. This can be in the article itself or in a sidebar.

The magazines does not accept

  • Overly politically biased or demeaning material.
  • Fiction
  • poetry
  • academic papers
  • puzzles
  • open letters
  • opinion pieces
  • book, music or movie reviews

It will not consider submissions that are simultaneously sent to other publications.

Before Submitting Manuscripts

Study a copy of Catholic Digest to become acquainted with the magazines tone and style in print or on the website at Catholic.Digest.com.

  • Use an anecdotal approach focusing on a definitive topic that would have national appeal. The article should contain well-developed series of true-life, interconnected vignettes with lively dialog and/or author quotes.
  • Original manuscripts should include a one or two-line bio that can be included at the end of the article.
  • Reprints should include the name, address, and editor of the original publication source,copyright line, page number and date of the original.
  • Photos should be attached as .jpeg files.

Seasonal material should be submitted at least 3-4 months in advance.
