It began by popularizing scientific knowledge on child development to help parents rear their children. It eventually came to reach millions of homes. It used experts in child health, psychology, and educational translated studies. It was written in a popular style with terms that could be easily understood and offered practical suggestions. Advertising promoting ready -made baby food, preparatory schools. and summer camps provided the necessary income to produce the magazine. It was founded by George J. Hecht, a businessman and social service worker. He believed that even educated, middle-class parents needed access to knowledge and assistance in raising their children. His venture was originally funded by the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Foundation. In addition to publishing Parents Magazine, Mr. Hecht and the first editor, Clara Savage Littledale, who had come of age during the Progressive Era, they urged parents to look beyond their own children and to support legislation on behalf of children and families. By 1946, Parents Magazine had reached over a million readers. By then, it had expanded into creating a series of children's books and other children's magazines. By the year 2002, it had over two million subscribers. Parents Magazine Requirements for Prospective Writers
